The TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 Trophy lit up Lagos on Wednesday, and at the heart of the celebration stood Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, the General Manager, Retail & Cards at TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, who delivered a powerful message about unity, resilience, and the spirit of African excellence.

“Our partnership with the Confederation of African Football has been a cornerstone of how we engage with communities across Africa,” Umar said, his voice carrying through a hall filled with journalists, fans, and dignitaries. “This partnership, which has now been extended to 2028, goes beyond sponsorship — it is a shared vision built on unity, empowerment, and the celebration of African excellence through sport.”

From Lagos, the glittering trophy embarks on a journey across the continent, spreading excitement and anticipation ahead of AFCON Morocco 2025, Africa’s most prestigious football competition.

“From Lagos, this magnificent trophy will travel across Africa, igniting excitement and reminding us all of the magic that football brings,” Umar continued. “Today, as we stand before this golden symbol of achievement, we celebrate the resilience and passion that define us as Africans.”

The Lagos leg of the tour began with a press conference at Eko Tower 2, Victoria Island, followed by a lively public viewing event at Marcellina’s Place, GRA Ikeja. Fans gathered in large numbers to take photos with the trophy and celebrate Nigeria’s place in the story of African football glory.

Under Umar’s leadership, TotalEnergies reiterated its commitment to using football as a platform for empowerment, social development, and unity. The company’s partnership with CAF — now renewed through 2028 — underscores its mission to energize lives not only through its products and services but through its passion for the continent’s most loved sport.

“Football is not just about competition,” Umar said with pride. “It’s about community, resilience, and the power of shared dreams. At TotalEnergies, we believe in that power — the power that unites, inspires, and drives Africa forward.”

As the AFCON 2025 Trophy continues its tour across Africa, Lagos has once again proven to be a vibrant heartbeat of the continent’s football story — a city where passion meets purpose, and where the energy of Africa shines brightest.
