Dar es Salaam – Young Africans (Yanga) new head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, officially began his duties today at the Avic Town Stadium, Kigamboni, marking the start of a new chapter for the reigning Tanzanian champions.
However, the Portuguese tactician may have to wait a little longer before making his first appearance on the touchline, as the club continues to await his work permit approval.

Club Manager Walter Harrison confirmed that the situation remains uncertain, explaining that the final decision will depend on whether the necessary documents are cleared before kick-off.
“We will check until the evening if the permits are obtained to sit on the bench, but if not, we will continue with coach Patrick Mabedi, who has prepared the team since the African Champions League match against Silver Strikers,” Harrison said.
Yanga are set to face Mtibwa Sugar tomorrow in their third NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League fixture of the season. The club currently sits 13th on the table with four points from two matches, following a goalless draw away to Mbeya City in their previous outing.
Fans of the Jangwani giants are eager to see what Gonçalves — known for his tactical discipline and player development expertise — will bring to the team once he officially takes charge from the sidelines.
With the new coach now in camp and a talented squad at his disposal, Yanga supporters are hopeful that the Gonçalves era will continue the club’s dominance in domestic football while pushing for greater success in the CAF Champions League.
