Singida Black Stars Make History: Tanzanian Side Qualify for CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage for the First Time

Dar es Salaam — It was a historic night for Singida Black Stars as they secured qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in the club’s history, following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Burundi’s Frambeau du Centre in the second leg encounter at the Azam Complex, Dar es Salaam.

Despite falling behind early in the first half, Coach Miguel Gamondi’s side showed remarkable resilience and determination to turn the game around after the break.

The visitors stunned the home crowd with an early opener, maintaining their 1-0 lead until halftime. However, the tide shifted dramatically in the second half as Muaku leveled the score with a brilliant finish. Moments later, Clatous Chama converted from the penalty spot to give Singida the lead, before Diomande sealed the victory with a well-taken third goal in the 83rd minute.

The result ensured a 4-2 aggregate win for Singida, following the 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Burundi.

This triumph marks a major milestone for the Singida-based club, who have now joined fellow Tanzanian sides Azam FC and Young Africans (Yanga) in the prestigious group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup — an achievement that underscores the growing strength of Tanzanian football on the continental stage.

Speaking after the match, Coach Miguel Gamondi praised his players for their fighting spirit and tactical discipline, emphasizing that the qualification is a reflection of the team’s hard work and ambition.

“We started slow but showed great character in the second half,” Gamondi said. “This qualification means everything to the players, the club, and Tanzanian football as a whole.”

For Singida Black Stars, it was more than just a victory — it was a statement of intent and a night to remember in Tanzanian football history
