Nigeria’s experienced football tactician, Coach Henry Abiodun, has been nominated for the prestigious Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Diamond Jubilee National Award, scheduled to hold later this month in Abuja.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), in a letter signed by its Secretary-General, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, confirmed the nomination, noting that the honour recognizes the national pride and glory Abiodun has brought to the country through sports.

According to the association, the award ceremony will take place at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on October 31, 2025, by 1:00 p.m.
The event is part of SWAN’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, marking 60 years of promoting excellence and professionalism in Nigerian sports journalism.
“The conferment is in recognition of the national pride and glory you brought to your fatherland,” the letter read in part. “Nigerian sports writers owe it to thank you for making Nigeria great through sports.”
Coach Abiodun, a respected figure in Nigerian football circles by whose work in advancing football development in the country and beyond is visible.
He is currently a national instructor whose diverse knowledge in teaching the teachers of the game cannot be over emphasized.
The SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award celebrates outstanding individuals whose achievements have significantly contributed to the growth and development of Nigerian sports, both locally and internationally.
