‘Tough Learning Experience’ – Flamingos Coach Bankole Olowookere Reacts to 4-1 Loss to Canada, Promises Redemption Against France, Samoa

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team head coach, Bankole Olowookere, has described his side’s 4-1 defeat to Canada in their opening match of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 as a tough learning experience.

Speaking after the game, Olowookere admitted that individual errors and missed chances cost the Flamingos despite a bright first-half display.

“You know, this is a huge game, and sometimes mistakes happen. We gave away two easy goals and didn’t take our chances when they came,” he said.

The coach, however, remained upbeat, expressing confidence that his young team would bounce back stronger in their remaining group fixtures.

“It’s a lesson for the girls. We’ll go back, correct our mistakes, and prepare better for the next matches,” Olowookere added. “We still have two games to play, and we’ll do everything possible—tactically and mentally—to get the wins we need to stay in the tournament.”

Nigeria currently sit bottom of group D after France defeated Samoa 4-2 on Sunday. The Flamingos will hope to reignite their campaign when they face France in their next group-stage encounter on Wedenesday.
