Okpara Cautions Super Eagles Ahead of Tough World Cup Playoffs

Former Nigerian international Godwin Okpara has warned that the Super Eagles face a difficult path in the upcoming World Cup playoffs, urging the team to stay focused and prepared for any opponent.

Okpara said while Nigeria’s qualification for the playoffs is commendable, the real challenge begins now. “The playoffs are never easy. Every team that gets here deserves to be respected,” he said.

He expressed particular concern about the possibility of facing Cameroon, describing a Nigeria–Cameroon tie as “always something else” due to the fierce rivalry between the two nations.

“It’s not just football when Nigeria meets Cameroon — it’s pride, history, and emotion. But I believe we have what it takes to qualify if we stay disciplined,” he added.

Okpara stressed the importance of consistency and concentration, noting that qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup must remain a national priority. “The World Cup is one tournament Nigeria cannot afford to miss. The team needs to carry this momentum into the playoffs and make sure they finish the job,” he concluded.
