Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenuba has expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s ability to scale through the upcoming World Cup playoff fixtures — provided the team maintains the same energy and mentality displayed in their 4–0 demolition of Benin Republic.
Speaking after the victory, Aiyenuba commended the team’s attitude, praising their focus, teamwork, and fighting spirit. He said the win was more than just a result — it was a reflection of a renewed belief within the squad.

“What we saw against Benin was a completely different Super Eagles,” Aiyenuba said. “The players looked hungry, coordinated, and determined. If they carry that same mindset into the playoffs, I have no doubt we’ll qualify for the World Cup.”
The former Enyimba shot-stopper, who was part of Nigeria’s golden era in the mid-2000s, urged the players to remain grounded and avoid complacency, emphasizing that consistency is key.
“Winning one big match isn’t enough; they must build on it. The playoffs are always tricky, but confidence and character will make the difference,” he added.
Aiyenuba also lauded Victor Osimhen’s leadership and passion, calling him an example for younger players to follow. “You can see what Osimhen brings — he inspires everyone on the pitch. That kind of energy lifts the entire team,” he said.
With Nigeria set to face a tough route through the CAF playoff stage, Aiyenuba expressed optimism that the Super Eagles’ new-found form and unity could guide them back to the world’s biggest football stage.
