Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has praised the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic, describing it as a statement performance that reignited faith in the national team’s World Cup dream.
Speaking after the match, Adepoju commended the players for their discipline and determination, saying the result proved that Nigeria still has the quality to dominate on the continent.

“That victory wasn’t just about the scoreline,” Adepoju said. “It was about pride, resilience, and showing the world what Nigerian football truly represents.”
The former Real Sociedad midfielder emphasized that the win sent “a strong message across Africa,” insisting that when the Super Eagles are at their best, no team can stop them. “We’ve seen the potential. This is the level Nigeria should always play at — with intensity, confidence, and unity,” he added.
Adepoju also credited head coach Eric Chelle for restoring belief and structure to the side, noting that tactical discipline and teamwork were key factors in the dominant performance.
He urged the players to maintain their momentum heading into the World Cup playoff series, warning that complacency must be avoided.
“The job isn’t finished yet,” he said. “The playoffs will be tough, but if they play with the same hunger and focus as they did against Benin, Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup. The team just needs to stay consistent and believe in themselves.”
