Dar es Salaam – The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) First Vice President, Athuman Nyamlani, has officially closed a five-day FIFA Junior Referees Course, which brought together 31 emerging referees as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s officiating standards.
Speaking to www.sports.ng after the event, Nyamlani emphasized that the course is designed to prepare the next generation of referees who will take over from the current crop as they approach retirement.

“The benefit of this course is to prepare referees who will replace our current officials in the near future,” Nyamlani explained. “Another goal is to ensure Tanzania produces more referees capable of officiating in major CAF and FIFA competitions.”
He added that the initiative aligns with Tanzania’s broader football development strategy, which aims to ensure excellence not just on the pitch, but also in officiating.
“As a nation, we are on a big football development plan. Our Men’s and Women’s national teams are performing well in various competitions. We want the same progress reflected in refereeing as well,” Nyamlani said.
Currently, Tanzania has only 10 referees with FIFA badges, with Ahmed Arajiga being the most active at the continental level, regularly officiating in CAF tournaments.
The conclusion of the FIFA Junior Referees Course marks another milestone in Tanzania’s quest to nurture world-class officials, ensuring the country remains competitive and well-represented in global football governance and officiating circles.
