Young Africans Appoint Malawian Patrick Mabedi as Assistant Coach Amid Poor Run of Form

Dar es Salaam – Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC have officially unveiled Patrick Mabedi as the club’s new assistant coach, joining the technical bench alongside head coach Romain Folz and first assistant Mano Rodriguez.

The appointment comes as part of the club’s broader restructuring efforts, following a string of underwhelming performances under French tactician Folz. The management is reportedly in the process of reviewing the team’s technical setup, with the aim of restoring Yanga’s winning momentum ahead of key fixtures.

Mabedi, a respected figure in African football, brings a wealth of experience both as a coach and former international player. He recently served as head coach of the Malawi national team from 2023 to 2025, earning praise for his tactical discipline and player development.

As a player, Mabedi enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over a decade, featuring for Bata Bullets (1989–1999) in Malawi before moving to South Africa, where he starred for Kaizer Chiefs (1998–2006) and Moroka Swallows (2006–2008).

His arrival at Young Africans is seen as a move to strengthen the club’s tactical depth and improve performance levels, particularly ahead of their CAF Champions League clash against Silver Strikers of Malawi.

Club officials expressed optimism that Mabedi’s influence will bring renewed energy and focus to the squad. Supporters are also hopeful that his experience within the Southern African football landscape will help Yanga rediscover their trademark dominance both domestically and on the continent.
