The 2025 Africa Hockey Cup of Nations in Cairo continues on Sunday, October 12, as Nigeria’s women’s team fell to a heavy 5–1 defeat against Ghana.
In the women’s encounter played at 11:00 a.m., Ghana dominated from start to finish, taking control of the game early and maintaining relentless pressure throughout.

The Nigerian side managed to pull one back but could not withstand the pace and coordination of the Ghanaians, who scored five well-taken goals to seal a comprehensive victory.
The defeat marks Nigeria’s second consecutive loss in the tournament, leaving the team with a tough task ahead in their remaining group fixtures.
Head Coach of Nigeria’s women’s team expressed disappointment at the result but remained optimistic about the team’s ability to bounce back, emphasizing the importance of regrouping and learning from the experience.
“We have to take this as a lesson and focus on improving our performance in the next match,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the men’s division witnessed another setback as Zambia forfeited their second game in a row after failing to appear for their fixture against Ghana scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
As per tournament rules, Ghana was awarded a 5–0 victory, maintaining their unbeaten record in the competition.
The results further strengthen Ghana’s dominance in both the men’s and women’s categories, while Nigeria and Zambia will look to recover in the coming days.
