NSC DG Honours Alake Of Egbaland On 82nd Birthday With Table Tennis Tournament

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, joined dignitaries, community leaders, and the sons and daughters of Egbaland to celebrate the 82nd birthday of His Royal Majesty, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV.

Hon. Olopade, a prominent High Chief in Egbaland, was among the distinguished personalities who graced the week-long table tennis tournament organized in honour of the revered monarch.

The event, held from Monday, October 6 to Friday, October 10, featured multiple categories including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, premiership and championship divisions, 60+ veterans singles, and 70+ septuagenarians singles.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Olopade lauded the Alake’s enduring legacy, his commitment to sports, and his proactive leadership in promoting youth development and community engagement through recreation and physical activity.

“I am truly delighted to join the sons and daughters of Egbaland in celebrating our revered monarch on his 82nd birthday. Kabiyesi is a true lover of sports and an embodiment of leadership, discipline, and grace,” Olopade said.

He added that the tournament reflected the Alake’s lifelong belief that sports can unite communities and strengthen social bonds.

“This tournament is a testament to his vision. We heartily felicitate with His Majesty and the good people of Egbaland on this momentous celebration. We will continue to pray for long life, good health, and divine wisdom for His Majesty as he continues to lead with honour and purpose,” Olopade stated.

The week-long event drew enthusiastic participation and widespread community engagement, highlighting Egbaland’s vibrant sporting culture under the leadership of the Alake. The closing ceremony featured traditional displays, camaraderie, and celebrations, underscoring the monarch’s legacy as a unifying figure inspiring excellence, peace, and progress across generations.
