FIFA 2026 World Cup: Aside Ademola Lookman, Two Key Benin Stars Ruled Out of Crucial Nigeria–Benin Qualifier

Ademola Lookman ams two key players of Benin Republic will miss the must win encounter between Nigeria and Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash on Tuesday in Uyo.

The Atalanta forward picked up a yellow card in the 63rd minute of Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Lesotho in Polokwane after fouling Fusi Matlabe.

The booking, his second of the campaign, rules him out of the decisive Group C encounter due to suspension.

Lookman’s absence comes as a major setback for the Super Eagles, who must secure all three points to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The winger has been one of Nigeria’s most reliable attacking options, contributing goals and assists in recent outings.

The Super Eagles Coach Eric Sekou Chelle is expected to tweak his tactics selection of players as Samuel Chukwueze of Fulham or Akor Adams may have a place in the starting line up when take on Benin Republic on Tuesday.

Benin Republic, however, will not be at full strength either.

The Cheetahs will miss two key players — Yohan Roche and Sessi D’Almeida — both suspended for the showdown in Uyo.

Head coach Gernot Rohr confirmed that the defender and the defensive midfielder received bookings during their 1–0 victory over Rwanda, ruling them out of the encounter against Nigeria.

With Nigeria, Benin Republic, and South Africa all still in contention for the top spot in Group C, Tuesday’s fixture promises to be an intense battle that could decide who edges closer to securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
