Boniface Confident Flamingos Will Shine in Morocco, Eyes Historic U-17 World Cup Run

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team goalkeeper, Elizabeth Boniface, has expressed optimism about the Flamingos’ chances ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in Morocco later this month.

Speaking before the team’s departure for North Africa, Boniface said the players have worked tirelessly in camp under head coach Bankole Olowookere, adding that the team’s spirit, unity, and focus have reached an all-time high.

She noted that the Flamingos have learned from their past campaigns and are ready to surpass their previous best finish — a quarterfinal appearance in India 2022.

“We’ve trained very hard for this moment,” Boniface said with confidence. “The coaches have pushed us to improve in every aspect — our defending, our communication, and our composure under pressure. We believe this is our time to make history for Nigeria.”

Boniface, who has been outstanding during preparations, revealed that the team has benefited from intensive tactical sessions and friendly matches organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). She also praised the Federation for ensuring proper welfare and logistics throughout the buildup.

“The NFF has been very supportive, and we really appreciate that,” she added. “They’ve made sure we focus only on football. Now it’s up to us to deliver and make the nation proud.”

The young goalkeeper further highlighted the team’s determination to represent Nigerian women’s football with pride and grace, saying faith and discipline will be their biggest weapons in Morocco.

“With God on our side, we’ll go far,” Boniface said. “Our goal is to play as one family, give our all in every game, and bring glory home.”

The Flamingos are set to open their campaign against Canada on October 19, as they aim to write a new chapter in Nigeria’s rich women’s football history.
