The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Santiago, Chile, ahead of their Round of 16 encounter with Argentina at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted by Chile.

Led by NFF officials Sharif Rabi’u Inuwa and Otumba Dele Ajayi, the Nigerian team touched down in the Chilean capital on Monday and will hold their final training session on Tuesday before the crucial knockout fixture scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.

The Flying Eagles secured qualification for the Round of 16 after finishing among the best third-placed teams in the group stage. Nigeria’s passage was confirmed following a 1–1 draw with Colombia, in which team captain Daniel Bameyi converted a late penalty to keep their World Cup campaign alive.

Under the guidance of head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Flying Eagles’ preparation in Santiago has focused on tactical organization, recovery sessions, and set-piece routines as they aim to record an upset against one of the tournament’s strongest sides.

Argentina, six-time U-20 world champions, head into the knockout round in fine form after topping their group with maximum points. The South Americans recorded victories over Japan, Morocco, and Slovakia, displaying attacking strength led by rising star Santiago Castro. The team is widely regarded as one of the frontrunners for the title, combining fluid attacking football with compact defensive structure.

The match between Nigeria and Argentina is expected to be one of the most anticipated fixtures of the Round of 16. Both teams boast proud youth football histories, with Nigeria chasing a first-ever U-20 world title and Argentina seeking to extend their dominance at this level.

Kick-off is scheduled for Wednesday evening local time at Santiago’s historic Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, where a large turnout of fans is expected as both nations vie for a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
