He noted that Lagos made history by becoming the first African city to host the E1 powerboat racing series, joining the elite company of Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice.

“Lagos is not just a city of history but of bold innovation. From FESTAC ’77 to the Lagos Marathon, this city continues to project Nigeria to the world,” Tinubu said.

The President emphasised that the E1 Series, with its cutting-edge electric-powered vessels, represents more than just thrilling sport but “a statement of intent” towards a greener and more sustainable future.

“As a nation committed to renewable energy, Nigeria welcomes this pioneering event as a complement to our drive toward a low-carbon economy,” he stated.

Tinubu commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the E1 organisers, and the event sponsors for their foresight and dedication in making the Lagos Grand Prix a reality.

Describing himself as “a proud Lagosian,” Tinubu reaffirmed Lagos as Nigeria’s economic and cultural heartbeat, perfectly suited to host such a world-class event.

He also urged the participating teams, many owned by global celebrities, to appreciate the hopes of millions of Nigerians who see in sports a force for transformation and unity.

“This event underscores our administration’s commitment to developing the blue economy as a catalyst for growth, job creation, marine tourism, and global partnerships,” he added.

Tinubu expressed optimism that the Lagos Grand Prix would mark Africa’s emergence as a leader in the transition to clean energy and sustainable prosperity.

“I welcome all visitors, competitors, and spectators on behalf of Nigeria. May you enjoy Lagos’ warmth, cultural rhythm, and the promise of our shared future,” he said.
