NPFL: Kwara United, Abia Warriors Eye Redemption After CAF Exit

It’s redemption time in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as Kwara United and Abia Warriors return to action today (Thursday), eager to erase the disappointment of their CAF Confederation Cup exits with crucial home victories.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors will lock horns with defending champions Remo Stars in a rescheduled Matchday 6 showdown kicking off at 4:00 p.m.

The Warriors bowed out of the Confederation Cup after a narrow 2-1 aggregate loss to Mali’s Djoliba FC, and the team will be desperate to give their fans something to cheer about.

But Remo Stars are no easy visitors.

The Sky Blue boys cruised past Zilimandjo FC of Comoros 5-0 on aggregate in their continental campaign and will now shift focus to tightening their grip on the NPFL title race. Expect sparks to fly in Umuahia.

Over in Ilorin, the spotlight falls on the George Innih Stadium’s Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl where Kwara United host Plateau United in a rescheduled Matchday 5 clash.

The Harmony Boys, stung by their early Confederation Cup exit, have promised to come back stronger, with Coach Tunde Sanni rallying his troops to deliver back-to-back wins in front of their home supporters.

Training has been fierce since their return from continental duty, with Wasiu Jimoh Teku back in the squad.

However, Bright Babatunde and Saheed Olaniyi remain unavailable.

Goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus is tipped for a start as Sanni plots changes to his starting XI.

Last season, Kwara United took four points off Plateau United, and fans will be banking on a repeat performance.

Plateau, with six points from five games, will be looking to spoil the party, but the Harmony Boys — with five points from four matches — insist the painful continental exit has only made them hungrier.

The coaching crew has also poured cold water on rumours of an ultimatum, urging fans to ignore distractions and back the team through this crucial run.

Two big fixtures, two wounded sides seeking redemption, and fans guaranteed plenty of drama when both games kick off at 4:00 p.m.
