Nigeria’s Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi, has urged Nigerians not to give up on the team despite their disappointing start at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where they lost 2-0 to Norway in their opening game.
Bameyi admitted that the defeat was a huge setback and a dent to their qualification hopes, but he insisted the players are determined to bounce back. “We know we disappointed our fans. Losing the first match is not what we planned, but we are not giving up and neither should Nigerians,” he said.

The young defender highlighted lapses in concentration and missed chances as the major reasons for the defeat. “We had opportunities but failed to take them. Norway were clinical, and at this level, that’s the difference,” Bameyi explained.
Despite the loss, the captain remains optimistic about the team’s chances of progressing. “We still have two matches to play. We must correct our mistakes and fight harder. Qualification is still possible if we give our all.”
Bameyi also appealed for patience and continued support from Nigerians. “This is not the time to criticize or abandon us. We need encouragement. The fans are our strength, and with them behind us, we can turn things around.”
The Flying Eagles will next face a crucial game against South American opposition, knowing that anything short of victory could end their campaign prematurely.
For Bameyi, however, the focus is clear — redemption. “We are wearing the Nigerian jersey with pride. We owe it to ourselves and to the country to fight back.”
The call is now to fans: keep faith alive.
