At just 19 years old, Nigerian boxer Benjamin Ebilade is fighting battles that go far beyond the ring. From injuries to financial struggles, the young athlete has faced hurdles that threatened to derail his career — but his determination to succeed has kept him moving forward.
Ebilade, who began boxing as a teenager, admits the journey has not been easy in an interview with Sports247. “There were moments I wanted to quit, but the love I have for the sport always pulled me back,” he said.

Despite the challenges, his vision remains clear: to become a world-class boxer. He believes every setback has shaped his character, fueling the resilience that drives him today.
“Setbacks don’t define you, your comeback does,” Ebilade said. “Keep showing up, keep pushing, even when nobody is clapping for you.”
Now more than ever, the Bayelsa-born fighter is focused on visibility. He stresses that talent alone is not enough in sports without recognition. “You can be talented, but if nobody sees you, your opportunities will be limited. With visibility, I can attract sponsors, gain fans, and show others that even a fighter from humble beginnings can rise.”
To build his profile, Ebilade has been competing in local tournaments, sharing his training journey on social media, and speaking on platforms to inspire others. He hopes that his consistency and persistence will open doors to larger stages.
For young athletes like him, Ebilade believes resilience is the key. With optimism and grit, he is determined to prove that a boxer from Bayelsa can one day command global attention
