Golden Eaglets Will Improve With Each Game – Manu Garba

Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets’ coach, Manu Garba is taking stock of his side’s stunning victory in their first game at the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU)-B U17 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire and declared that his wards will improve with each passing game.

Sports247 reports that, though the Eaglets looked good in their first group game, as they walloped Benin Republic 4-1 at Stade Lycee Scientifique, Garba said he noticed some flaws in the squad which he admitted will have to be corrected before their next game.

The 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winning coach in the United Arab Emirates eulogised, “The boys gave a good account of themselves. Though we had some lapses, we’ll try to correct them before our next game against Burkina Faso.

“On the whole, it was a very good game, and our opponents also tried their best. Because they had already lost to Burkina Faso, they were nervous, and they tried to get a good result against us.”
Garba, who played for Nigeria as a youth international at the 1985 FIFA U20 World Cup in Mexico, added that the Eaglets were able to overcome Benin Republuc’s threat due to their superior tactical flexibility, and promised that they will do even better versus Burkina Faso this Saturday.

“We had something up or sleeves. We knew that once we won that match, we would have a foot in the semi-finals. So, as the competition progresses, you are going to see a better Nigerian team. I believe they are going to improve with each game,” Garba concluded.

He will again be counting on goals from early top scorer, George Agah, who scored a hat trick against Benin Republic, as well as David Edeh, who also hit target with a stunning sizzler from far.

A draw on Saturday would be enough to keep Nigeria top of their group after all first round matches, as Burkina could only force a single goal in their opening victory against Benin Republic.
