When Rio Ngumoha swapped Chelsea blue for Liverpool red in September 2024, few could have predicted how quickly the teenage forward would rise through the ranks. Barely a year on, the 17-year-old is already leaving his mark on the senior stage at Anfield.
Ngumoha has made five first-team appearances for the Reds so far, the most recent coming in Tuesday’s hard-fought 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Southampton. But it was his unforgettable Premier League debut last month that truly announced him to the footballing world.

His meteoric rise continued weeks later in Europe, when he stepped onto the pitch at Anfield in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid, marking his continental debut in front of a roaring Kop. Ngumoha’s first taste of senior football had arrived in January, when Arne Slot handed him a start in the Emirates FA Cup against Accrington Stanley.
The England U19 international has been a key figure across Liverpool’s youth sides too — from U18s to U21s — but his rapid integration into the first team hints at a future far brighter than the academy stage.
Tied to the Reds until 2028, the versatile forward represents not just Liverpool’s future, but also a fascinating blend of heritage: born in England to Nigerian and Guadeloupean parents, Ngumoha proudly holds both Nigerian and French nationalities.
