FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Oyo Throws Gate Open As Falconets Attack Rwanda on Saturday

Football fans in Ibadan will enjoy free access to watch Nigeria’s Falconets when they face Rwanda’s U20 women’s team in the decisive second leg of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier.

The match kicks off at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, announced the development during a press briefing on Thursday, encouraging residents to turn out in large numbers.

“We want the stands filled. We want the Falconets to feel the strength of Ibadan and Oyo State behind them,” she said.

Adegoke added that beyond the football, fans can expect cultural displays and entertainment designed to create a carnival-like atmosphere at the stadium.

The state government has invested heavily to ensure smooth organization, with the match to be officiated by a Gambian referee.

The fixture comes just days after the reopening of Ibadan Airport, which had been closed for upgrades.

The airport successfully hosted its first flight on Wednesday, paving the way for the arrival of dignitaries and guests attending both the match and the coronation of Oba Rasheed Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at Mapo Hall on Saturday.

High-profile visitors, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governors, political leaders, and business figures, are expected in the city.

Hotels are reportedly fully booked through the weekend.

Nigeria head into the tie with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Kigali.

A winner over the two legs moves into the third round of the qualification series
