Nigeria’s Delegation Arrives London For Final Push to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

A high-powered Nigerian delegation has arrived in London for the final phase of the country’s presentation to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030.

The team is led by Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, as Nigeria prepares for Wednesday’s decisive round of engagements.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s full backing of the bid, pledging the country’s readiness to deliver a world-class Games if awarded hosting rights. Last week, Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, welcomed the Commonwealth Games Bid Evaluation team during their visit to Nigeria, underscoring the administration’s commitment.

Also part of the London delegation are the President’s Special Assistant on Public Communication and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Sunday Dare; Bid Coordinator, Mallam Mainasara Ilo; President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel; Minister of Arts and Culture, Hannatu Musawa; five-time Olympian and double Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Mary Onyali; and current para-badminton world number one player, Eniola Bolaji.

Nigeria’s bid is anchored on inclusivity, legacy, and development, with a promise to deliver a Games that celebrates the Commonwealth spirit while creating lasting opportunities for sport, culture, and youth across Africa.
