It was a weekend of contrasting results for Nigerian clubs in the 2025/26 CAF Club Competitions, with Remo Stars cruising to a comfortable victory while Kwara United and Abia Warriors endured difficult outings.
At the M.K.O Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, reigning NPFL champions Remo Stars delivered a dominant performance, thrashing US Zilimadjou 4-0 in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Leonard Ngenge set the tone in the 12th minute with a composed finish from a corner before Ebuka Anthony doubled the lead just before halftime.
The Sky Blue Stars continued their superiority after the restart, as Malian forward Adama Goita rose to head in the third from Ibrahim Abubakar’s pinpoint cross.
Substitute Samson Olasupo rounded off the scoring to give Daniel Ogunmodede’s men a commanding first-leg advantage ahead of the return fixture at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Abia Warriors were left to rue missed chances in Uyo, where they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Mali’s Djoliba AC in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Emeka Obioma’s well-placed header in the 21st minute put the Warriors in front, but the CAF debutants failed to kill off the game and were pegged back by a late equaliser.
In Ghana, Kwara United fell 4-3 to Asante Kotoko in an entertaining seven-goal thriller.
The Harmony Boys matched the Ghanaian giants in the first half, going into the break at 2-2.
However, defensive lapses in the second half saw the hosts edge ahead despite a spirited fightback from Tunde Sanni’s side.
Elsewhere, Rivers United secured a valuable away draw against Les Aigles du Congo in Kinshasa on Saturday, holding firm in a goalless stalemate to keep their CAF Champions League hopes alive.
