Having reached last season’s CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane, Simba showed their pedigree with a dominant first-half performance. The second half, however, belonged to Gaborone United, who pressed hard for an equalizer but were repeatedly denied by Simba’s heroic goalkeeper Moussa Camara, whose outstanding saves preserved the victory.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Singida Black Stars also recorded a vital 1-0 win against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports at Pele Stadium. Togo international midfielder Marouf Tchakei scored the decisive goal to hand the Tanzanian side an important first-leg advantage.
Meanwhile, Azam FC continued the winning trend for Tanzanian clubs by defeating Al Merreikh of South Sudan 2-0. Goals from Feisal Salum and Kitambala Bola secured the comfortable away result.
With these victories, Simba, Singida Black Stars, and Azam FC take commanding positions into the second-leg fixtures as they aim to progress further in their respective CAF campaigns.
