Young Africans SC (Yanga) announced their continental ambitions in style with a dominant 3-0 away victory over Angola’s Wiliete SC in the CAF Champions League preliminary round at Estadio 11 de Novembro, Luanda.
The Tanzanian champions looked every bit the continental heavyweights as they combined tactical discipline with attacking brilliance to silence the home crowd.

The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Aziz Andabwile unleashed a spectacular strike from outside the box, sending the ball curling beyond the helpless Wiliete goalkeeper. Yanga carried their 1-0 advantage into the break, but they weren’t done yet.
In the second half, the visitors turned up the heat. Edmund John extended the lead in the 72nd minute, latching onto a perfectly timed pass from Maxi Nzengeli before slotting home with composure. Zimbabwean international Prince Dube, who had earlier squandered chances, redeemed himself in the 82nd minute with a clinical finish that sealed the emphatic victory.
Despite the missed opportunities, Yanga never looked threatened, showcasing their growing pedigree in African football and putting one foot firmly into the next round ahead of the return leg in Dar es Salaam on September 27, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Adding to the celebrations, the team also pocketed TZS 15 million through the ‘Mama Goal’ initiative, a reward program introduced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to encourage Tanzanian clubs in international competitions.
President Samia’s unwavering support for sports continues to inspire clubs across the nation, with Yanga’s triumph in Luanda serving as a statement of intent that Tanzania is ready to challenge the continent’s elite.
