Super Eagles forward Cyril Dessers opened his goalscoring account for Panathinaikos on Wednesday, netting the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over Athens Kallithea in the opening match of the Greek Cup League Phase.
The 30-year-old striker struck in the 30th minute at the Olympiako Stadio Athinon, sealing a crucial win for the Greens.

The goals lifted the spirits in what has been a transitional period for the club following the departure of manager Rui Vitoria.
It was only Dessers’ second appearance for Panathinaikos, having made his debut on September 14 in a 3-2 defeat to Kifisia.
This time, however, the Nigerian forward displayed his trademark sharp positioning and composure in front of goal, breaking the deadlock and setting the tone for his new team.
Despite a spirited second-half push from Athens Kallithea, Panathinaikos goalkeeper Alban Lafont produced a string of vital saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
The hosts continued to search for an insurance goal late on, but Dessers’ strike proved enough to secure all three points.
Dessers, who joined Panathinaikos in the summer transfer window after leaving Scottish giants Rangers, brings a wealth of experience from previous spells in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Scotland.
Known for his clinical finishing, he is expected to play a key role in the club’s domestic and European ambitions this season.
Speaking about his move, Dessers has emphasized his commitment to collective success over personal accolades, aiming to help Panathinaikos reestablish themselves as a dominant force in Greek football.
The victory not only hands the Greens a strong start in the Greek Cup but also highlights the potential impact Dessers could have in his debut season with the club.
