Tokyo 2025; Olopade Rallies Team Nigeria with NSC Backing Ahead of World Athletics Championships

Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has assured Team Nigeria of the Commission’s unwavering backing as the athletes head to Tokyo for the 2025 World Athletics Championships scheduled for September 13–21.

“Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared from inception that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,” Olopade stated.

“This is a moment of pride for our nation, and we trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes.”

” The Commission will continue to provide all the support they need and firmly stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”

Olopade further stressed that the athletes carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians and that the NSC’s priority is to ensure they excel.

“We want them to know they are not alone. The NSC, the government, and the people of Nigeria are fully behind them,” he added.

The NSC boss will be in Tokyo to lead from the front, working to guarantee that Nigeria’s representatives enjoy a smooth championship experience both on and off the track.

Nigeria is presenting a strong 15-member squad led by world record holder Tobi Amusan and Commonwealth Games champion Ese Brume.

They are joined by a blend of seasoned athletes and rising stars across various disciplines, including sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.

Nigeria’s 15-Member Team for Tokyo 2025
Men: Kayinsola Ajayi, Israel Sunday Okon, Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike, Samuel Ogazi, Chidi Okezie, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Charles Godfred, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Women: Rosemary Chukwuma, Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Prestina Ochonogor, Obiageri Amaechi, Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons, Oyesade Olatoye.

Nigeria will aim to build on its 2022 exploits, where Amusan broke the 100m hurdles world record and Brume secured long jump silver.
