Lobi Stars U19 Edge Golden Boys 2-1 in Thrilling Friendly

Despite shaky defensive displays, Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper Aondona Gbamwuam made three crucial saves to keep his team in contention.

Daniel Onu’s powerful header would have broken the deadlock for the Makurdi-based, but his effort hit the crossbar, while Benjamin Ishaya’s one-on-one opportunity capable of putting the visitors ahead was squandered by the pacy forward.

The game-changing moment arrived when Moses Kuku was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty that Daniel Onu converted with precision. Kuku doubled the lead in stoppage time with a clinical header, giving Lobi Stars a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Golden Boys pulled one back after the break through Yohana Dauda’s precise strike, which Gbamwuam couldn’t keep out.

The visitors surged forward, seeking an equaliser, but Lobi Stars U-19 held firm. Jacob Detso’s penalty kick sailed over the crossbar in the dying minutes, and Lobi Stars protected their lead to secure a 2-1 win

Coach Stephen Waghbo praised his team’s performance, saying, “Despite an early start, the lads showed great teamwork and coordination, dominating play and securing a well-deserved win. We’re proud of their progress and will continue to guide them positively.”

Lobi Stars U-19 will continue to fine-tune their tactics through friendly games ahead of the upcoming championship playoff.
