Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has dismissed persistent doubts about his fitness after completing a season-long loan move to Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international was officially unveiled by the Bundesliga club after a turbulent transfer window that saw potential deals with Al Nassr and AC Milan collapse.

During his presentation, Boniface brushed aside concerns regarding his physical condition, insisting that only his performances on the pitch should define him.
“Whatever you want to believe on the media, you can believe them—that’s not on me. I don’t care. If my body is not 100%, I will be in the hospital. I will not be here talking to you,” Boniface said.
Boniface’s recent transfer journey proved challenging. In January, a €70 million switch to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr collapsed despite him passing a medical.
Months later, a proposed move to Serie A giants AC Milan also broke down after repeated medical checks raised concerns about his right knee.
Despite these setbacks, Werder Bremen placed their trust in the Nigerian forward, securing him on loan until June 2026. As part of the agreement, Bayer Leverkusen will cover a portion of his wages.
The deal provides Boniface with a new platform, especially as Bremen seeks attacking reinforcements following the departure of last season’s top scorer Marvin Ducksch.
Meanwhile, Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen expressed strong belief in the qualities Boniface brings to the squad and explained why the move was approved.
“Victor is physically incredibly strong, has a very good finish, and good pace.”
“He shone as a goalscorer and assist provider in Bayer Leverkusen’s championship-winning season. I’m sure he can become a key player in our group this season,” Steffen said via the club’s official website.
