Remo Stars’ Assistant Coach Sulaiman Kamil Plots Defeats For Warri Wolves, Plateau United

Remo Stars FC of Ikenne’s assistant coach, Sulaiman Kamil (Lama) is already plotting the downfall of Warri Wolves and Plateau United of Jos in his squad’s next two matches of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Sports247 reports that ‘Lama,’ who is standing in for the club’s head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, who is away on national team duty with the Super Eagles, noted that the defending champions will have to keep winning all their matches in order to stage a bold quest for back-to-back conquests of the league.

Sulaiman admitted that the players did well in winning 2-1 away to Kun Khalifa of Imo State last weekend, but recalled that they earlier lost two points in their opening day 1-1 draw at home with fifth placed Rivers United of Port Hatcourt.

While reflecting on their first away win of the new season, Sulaiman noted, “It was a very good one for us and a very good performance by the guys. We had a plan while coming here. We stuck to the plan, and we got what we wanted. So, kudos to the boys for what they have done.”

He admitted that the team have to go ahead with their matches even during Ogunmodede’s absence, but still gave credit to the head coach for the away win, saying the top tactician had given solid instructions before moving to the national team’s camp.

Sulaiman disclosed, “Yes, Ogunmodede is not here, but his spirit is with us. All we needed to do was work hard, according to the way he said we should. We always carry out what he tells us to do, and we followed his plan from the beginning till the end of the game.

“So, for all that has happened, the credit goes to him. He prepared the team, and we are only here to represent him … to hold the house in his absence.

What he told us to do is what we did. We did it the way he said we should do it. We carried out his instructions, and that’s why we have this result.”

However, with Remo Stars now hogging fourth position on the NPFL’s log after two matches, behind top placed Bayelsa United of Yenagoa, who are followed by Warri Wolves of Delta State and El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in third, ‘Coach Lama’ acceded that the defending champions cannot rest on their oars with the away victory, considering that they are eager to retain the title at the end of this season.

The assistant gaffer noted, “Much is still at stake for us. Now we have four points in two matches. That means we lost two available points, and we have to get them back. So, we have to get three points in our next match.

It’s non-negotiable. By getting those maximum points, we’ll be able to stabilise in the season and get back to where we belong … which is the top of the table.”

Sulaiman concluded with permutations about the desired outcome the ream is aiming at from this Sunday’s home game versus second placed Warri Wolves, and then their trip away to Jos against Plateau United on September 14th, with a verdict that Remo Stars must win both games.

“Once we win our next match at home, we’ll get seven points and likely go up to the second or third on the table. After that, we’ll think of winning our next away match.

We have to win the away match, so that we can go on top … which is also non-negotiable. We are going to win both games, by the grace of God,” Sulaiman enthused.
