J E S U S ! Reactions Trail Remo Stars’ Unveiling of CHAN Super Eagles Defender Leonard Ngenge

Remo Stars have officially unveiled Super Eagles B defender, Leonard Ngenge, barely 24 hours after the departure of club captain Nduka Junior, who sealed a move to Iraq.

Ngenge was part of the home-based Super Eagles squad that featured in the ill-fated 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Nigeria crashed out in the group stage after a 1-0 loss to Senegal and a shocking 4-0 defeat to Sudan, before salvaging a 2-0 win over DR Congo in their final match.

Despite the victory, the campaign was overshadowed by criticism, with Ngenge singled out by many fans for costly defensive errors that contributed to three of the five goals conceded by Nigeria.

Confirming the signing on their official social media platforms, Remo Stars wrote:

“You already know but now O F F I C I A L 🤩
Leonard Ngenge is a Sky Blue Star.
You’re welcome, good player.”

The announcement was accompanied by photos of the defender in the club’s home kit.

However, the unveiling sparked mixed reactions among football fans. While some expressed doubts over his consistency, others urged patience, insisting the young defender has the qualities to develop into a top player if given the right support.

Sample Reactions:

@Heis Godwin: “JESUS!!”

@Fapohunda Femi: “We saw a fantastic player at Ikorodu City, but Chelle’s style of play nearly messed up his career.”

@Canice Dim: “The young man that bundled the home Eagles out of CHAN… but good luck to him.”

@Conia Ezenwa: “This guy will be a great defender in future, congratulations bro, you played with your heart.”

Remo Stars, who began their 2025/26 NPFL title defence with a 1-1 draw against Rivers United, will travel to Aba on Monday to face newly-promoted Kun Khalifat FC in week two.

The Sky Blue Stars will also represent Nigeria in the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
