Over five intensive days, participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that combined theoretical sessions with practical field training.
The modules covered key areas including the role and responsibilities of a coach, simplifying teaching and learning processes, and developing effective game models.
The course also explored individual tactics, the fundamentals of goalkeeping, talent identification and development, as well as both defensive and offensive strategies. Special focus was given to coaching methodologies, progression techniques, and the psychology of children’s and youth sports.
Additionally, participants were introduced to digital tools to support modern coaching practices.
Interactive classroom discussions, integrated training drills, and practical exercises created an atmosphere of collaboration and knowledge sharing. The sessions were led by IHF lecturer William de Almeida, supported by local trainers, ensuring a dynamic and motivational learning environment.
The successful completion by all 14 coaches marks a significant milestone for Nigerian handball. It reflects both the effectiveness of the course design and the strong commitment of the participants.
The IHF noted that this achievement reinforces its dedication to promoting coach education globally, ensuring that high standards and best practices in handball coaching are accessible to all regions.
