Two Nigerian Referees, Bayelsa Queens Set for WAFU-B Women’s Champions League

CAF appoints two Nigerian referees for the 2025 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire as Bayelsa Queens begin their campaign.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed two Nigerian match officials among those selected to officiate at the 2025 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire.

Alaba Olufunmilayo has been named as one of the eight referees, while Agbons Faith will serve as one of the eight assistant referees, making Nigeria one of the few countries with double representation at the regional tournament.

The qualifiers will run from Saturday, 23 August to Saturday, 5 September 2025, with matches taking place in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The eventual winner will secure a place at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League, joining seven other regional representatives.

Meanwhile, Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions, Bayelsa Queens, will begin their campaign against Ghana’s Police Ladies on Saturday, 23 August 2025.

Drawn in Group B, Bayelsa Queens will also face AS ASKO and Sam Nelly, both from Benin Republic.

The host club, ASEC Mimosas, will face Niger Republic’s AS Garde in the tournament’s opening fixture.
