Nigeria’s top scorer during Wednesday’s victory over Madagascar at the FIBA Africa Men’s Senior Basketball Championship in Luanda, Angola, Caleb Agada is relishing the opportunity of sharing his vast experience about the giants’ game with younger players in D’Tigers’ camp.
Sports247 reports that the 30-year-old veteran, who has played for clubs in Australia, Canada, Russia, Israel, Latvia and Spain, hit a game high 22 points to help Coach Mohammed Abdulrahman’s side defeat Madagascar 77-59 at Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda.
He has now shot a look back at the run of play in that encounter and admitted that D’Tigers did not hit the ground running, but expressed delight with how they eventually recovered to win the game with an 18-point margin.
Agada, who was born in Lafia, Nasarawa State, but grew up in Canada, noted: “It’s been a long journey getting here. There have been so many ups and downs that we can’t even talk about.
“So, it was kind of normal for us to have a sloppy start. But, I’m just glad that we were able to come together and finish well in the second half.”
He went on to admit that his longevity in the Nigerian camp is serving as a morale booster to other players in the team and described it as an honour being the one motivating younger lads at AfroBasket 2025.
“It’s very important that I’ve learnt a lot from my time in Canada, Israel, Russia, and in the BAL. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play in all those great leagues.
“For the younger guys, it’s an honour to pass down my experience and what I’ve learnt over the years. It’s very good,” said Agada, who currently plies his trade in Lybia.
He will now look up to another top scoring outing on Friday against Tunisia and then versus Cameroon this Sunday; while hoping to take D’Tigers all the way to the final and trophy on August 24th – just seven days to his 31st birthday.
