NPFL Suspend the Registration Process of Plateau United’s Adewale Adeyinka over Betting Allegation

A letter dated 5th August 2025 duely signed by the NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi reveals the Nigeria Premier Football League forwarded through Plateau United General Manager over the suspension of one of their players, which was a result of an ongoing investigation into allegation of insider betting levelled against Adewale Adeyinka.

The statement said the player, mentioned in the letter below, was accused of insider betting in the NPFL 25.

While investigation was ongoing, it was alleged again that the player rejected a contract offere from a prospective new club with a clause of immediate termination of contract in the case of betting implications.

This has reinforced the conviction that the allegation levelled against him by the club in the 2024/2025 NPFL season needs to be treated with utmost seriousness and urgency. Noting the Article 15.5 section B of the framework and rules of the NPFL prohibits all players from involving in betting and is punishable under section C of the same rules.

Adewale Adeyinka will be invited to state his defence on the allegation in due course as the investigation proceeds. Consequent upon these, it became necessary to put his registration on hold.
