Remo Stars FC of Ikenne midfielder, Tochukwu Michael has come out with a bold declaration that Super Eagles’ B-squad can win this year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN 2024) with Franco-Malian tactician, Eric Chelle in charge of the team.
Sports247 reports that, against the backdrop of the squad’s 1-0 loss to Senegal in their first match at the ongoing championship, Tochukwu brushed aside insinuations that the defeat came about because the players are struggling to understand Chelle’s tactics.

While many critics argue that the home-based lads have not adjusted to Chelle’s unusual pattern, Tochukwu insists it’s more about them putting their minds together, bonding with one another and being able to play as a compact team.
The dazzling midfielder reasoned further, “I really want us to have one mind, which is a shared goal of winning this CHAN. We must be more focused on the team’s bond, because one person can’t play alone.
“It’s a game of 11 men. So, I believe in everybody that’s here in the team, and I have a positive spirit that we will go far.”
Tochukwu then spoke about the quality of training they are receiving from Chelle, who he described as a very knowledgeable coach and with a very solid grasp of requirements in the round leather game.
The youngster, who helped his club win the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) last season, pointed out: “To whom much is given much is expected. Our coach is not a difficult person.
“He’s a very good coach, from my own view. He understands and speaks football deeply. If you also have a good understanding, you will know that he is a quality coach.”
Tochukwu concluded by looking into the chances of CHAN Eagles getting back into reckoning with victory over Sudan on Tuesday, ahead of which he declared that all the players are determined to win, but conceded that it will surely not be an easy task.
“In as much as we want it, our opponents also want it; but it’s about who wants it more. However, I feel and I’m positive that we will not fail the country.
“It’s a privilege to be here amongst the few who were chosen out of many that were called. So, we are ready to give our all; in order to have the gold medal at the end,” Tochukwu reassured.
