Rivers Angels Star Victoria Eyakndue to Host Second “Vicky-Pele” Tournament for Female Students in Uyo

Rivers Angels right-back Victoria Eyakndue is set to stage the second edition of the Vicky-Pele Football Tournament in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State — an initiative dedicated to female students at the University of Uyo and aimed at promoting a healthy balance between education and sports.

The tournament, named after Eyakndue’s nickname “Vicky-Pele,” focuses on empowering the girl child by creating more opportunities for women to thrive in football while pursuing their academic goals.

Eyakndue, a proud graduate of the University of Uyo with a degree in Fine Arts and Industrial Design, is no stranger to giving back to her community. Earlier this year, she received a hero’s welcome when Rivers Angels visited Uyo for an NWFL Premiership match against Ibom Angels. Known for her creativity both on and off the pitch, she once showcased her artistic skills by presenting a handmade artwork to the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports.

By hosting this second edition of the tournament, Eyakndue is not only investing in the future of women’s football but also inspiring young female athletes to see education as an equally powerful tool for success.

“This is about more than just football,” she has been quoted as saying in past community initiatives. “It’s about showing young women that they can excel in multiple fields — and that dreams are worth chasing.”

The Vicky-Pele Football Tournament has quickly become a symbolic platform for mentorship, competition, and empowerment in Akwa Ibom’s sporting calendar. With the new edition set to kick off soon, anticipation is building among students, local fans, and women’s football supporters across Nigeria.
