Sakaryaspor has announced the signing of 22-year-old forward Umechi Akuazaoku from Green Lock FC, following a successful trial period with the Turkish TFF 1. Lig club.
The Nigerian-Canadian striker impressed in pre-season friendlies, notably scoring in matches against Fenerbahçe and Al Waab Sport, leading to a two-year contract agreement.

Akuazaoku played college soccer at St. Bonaventure University in the U.S., where he made 58 appearances, scored 14 goals, and recorded 5 assists. He is known for his physical presence, standing at 6′3″, and for his ability to score crucial goals — five of his goals were match-winners.
Sakaryaspor officially confirmed the transfer with the statement: “Kulübümüz, Umechi Akuazaoku ile anlaşmaya varmıştır. Kendisine Yeşil‑Siyah forma altında başarılar dileriz.” He was signed alongside experienced Turkish defender Salih Dursun as part of the club’s preparations for the new season.
Akuazaoku’s move marks the start of his European professional career and signals Sakaryaspor’s growing interest in tapping into global talent pools. He is expected to strengthen the club’s attack and bring a fresh dynamic to their forward line.
