WAFCON 2024 FALL-OUT: There’s Nothing Special About My Goal Against Morocco – Jennifer Echegini

Paris Saint-Germain Feminine of France midfielder, Jennifer Echegini has downplayed all hupla about her match winning goal against Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final, insisting there was nothing special about it.

Sports247 reports that, while female football lovers across the world are still hailing the former Juventus of Italy dazzler for netting in the 88th minute to give Nigeria a 3-2 win and a very historic 10th WAFCON title, Echegini reiterated that she only did her duty in the team.

However, the 24-year-old star, who was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands then moved to England at age 11, admitted that she and her colleagues in the Super Falcons were all glad with their cup-winning heroics at WAFCON 2024.

Jennifer Echegini, who trained as a youth in England with the female teams of Charlton Athletic, Milwall, and Arsenal, revealed: “We’re just happy to win and bring the cup home. We’re really happy to share this with our fans, and I’m happy to be here.

“There was nothing special about what I did in the final. I just wanted a goal; and I tried to make an impact in whichever way I could.”

The cupid-faced lass, who earlier played university football in the United States with Mississippi State Bulldogs and Florida State Seminoles, added that she was determined to turn the table against Morocco after getting off Nigeria’s bench towards the end of the final in Rabat, but stressed that it was a privilege she was glad to get.

“There were about 10 minutes left. So, I told myself that I just had to give it my all and try my best. I am happy that I ended up scoring.

“I’m happy I scored but, honestly, it’s a privilege being able to represent my country. Being part of the WAFCON team is a rare experience,” concluded Echegini, who now has three goals in 26 games for Nigeria.

Sports247 gathered further that Jennifer Echegini, who has netted seven times in 16 matches for PSG, scored her first international goal in a FIFA Women’s World Cup build-up friendly against New Zealand on 11th April 2023.
