FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025: How Nigeria’s D’Tigress Destroyed Cameroon 83–47 To Secure Semi-Final Spot

Nigeria’s D’Tigress continued their quest for a record fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title with a commanding 83–47 victory over Cameroon in the quarter-finals on Thursday night at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Côte d’Ivoire.

The defending champions stamped their authority early, winning the first quarter 21–9 before maintaining momentum through a dominant third quarter (25–2) that sealed the contest.

Amy Okonkwo emerged as the standout performer, scoring 18 points and earning the TCL Player of the Game award. Dulcy Fankam led Cameroon with 16 points but could not stop Nigeria’s relentless offensive and defensive display.

The win means D’Tigress have now advanced to the semi-finals, moving a step closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Speaking after the game, Nigeria’s captain expressed confidence in the team’s ability to retain their title, saying, “We came here focused on one goal – to win. Every game brings us closer, and tonight we showed that we’re ready for any challenge ahead.”

Nigeria will face their next opponent in the semi-finals as they aim to extend their dominance in African women’s basketball.
