Alhassan Ibrahim Dominates Midfield As Shkëndija Dispatch FCSB, Clinches UCL Second Round Spot

Kano-born midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim delivered a commanding performance at the heart of FK Shkëndija’s midfield as they eliminated Romanian giants FCSB in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round second leg, sealing a 3–1 aggregate win despite a narrow 1–0 home loss in the first leg.

Ibrahim, celebrated for his tireless energy and control in the middle of the park, exerted dominance throughout both matches, helping Shkëndija advance to face Azerbaijani champions Qarabağ in the third qualifying round on August 5.

A substitute in the first leg, the Nigerians’ influence grew in the crucial second leg, combining pressing discipline with sharp passing transitions to suffocate FCSB’s creativity. His presence underpinned Shkëndija’s historic achievement in European competition—advancing past the second round for the first time and securing a continental group stage berth at minimum.

Shkëndija’s breakthrough came in Bucharest’s return leg where they overturned a 1-0 deficit from Skopje, eventually winning on penalties of performance as FCSB contrived to collapse under their pressure. Shkëndija’s resilience proved decisive when Vane Krstevski’s late strike, aided by a deflection, sealed the tie 3–1 on aggregate.

With his consistent performances this season—capped by his instrumental role in guiding Shkëndija to the Macedonian title in 2024–25—Alhassan Ibrahim is now firmly on the radar of European observers.

Shkëndija now prepare for the third qualifying round showdown against Qarabağ starting August 5, as they aim to continue their European campaign and potentially secure a place in the Europa League or Conference League group stages.
