AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigress Star Promise Amukamara Reveals – We’re Already Working Towards Our Next Game

Nigeria’s female basketball senior national team, D’Tigress, are already working towards their next game at the ongoing women’s continental championship in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, according to the squad’s point guard, Promise Amukamara.

Sports247 gathered that D’Tigress’ coach, Rena Wakama quickly took her players back into training the morning after they struggled to defeat Mozambique 60-55 in their second game of the championship, as she deemed the performance not good enough.

With a potentially slippery quarter-finals fixture now round the corner on Thursday, Amukamara admitted D’Tigress cannot afford another shaky outing, hence the zeal with which they all returned to training.

With their eyes still fixed firmly on winning a fifth straight African Women’s Basketball Championship title, the Charnay BB of Frsnce player, who was born in New Jersey, USA but opted to switch allegiance to her father’s country, enthused that D’Tigress will play better on Thursday.

The dashing star, who was the 16th pick by the Phoenix Suns in the third round of the USA’s Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) 2015 draft, also declared that D’Tigress will continue to improve with each passing game.

“This is a good showing for us so far, but it’s not the best of where we want to be. We still have room to improve and work towards the next game,” Amukamara assured.

It would be recalled that D’Tigress, who have won the last four editions of AfroBasket and previously clinched two in a row, to make it six overall, defeated Rwanda 92-45 in their first match at this year’s championship.
