FIBA AfroBasket Women 2025: D’Tigress Target Mozambique Scalp For Quarter Berth After Dominant Win Over Rwanda

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will return to action on Monday, July 28, when they take on Mozambique in their second Group D game at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 tournament in Abidjan.

The clash is scheduled for 16:00 local time at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, as the reigning African champions look to build on their impressive 92-45 rout of Rwanda in their opening match.

D’Tigress showcased their dominance with a commanding performance against Rwanda, extending their unbeaten run at the continental championship to 25 games. Forward Murjanatu Musa, who was instrumental in the opening win, stressed the need for defensive improvements despite the lopsided result.

“We expected a tough match against Rwanda as they are a good side,” Musa said. “I don’t know what happened to them, but it is a good first win for us. It gives us energy to keep working. However, there’s a need to tighten our defense in coming matches.”

Mozambique, on the other hand, will be eager to defeat the D’Tigress and keep their qualification hopes alive.

The matchup promises to be a key test for D’Tigress as they aim to top the group and advance into the knockout stages with confidence.

Nigeria are chasing a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, and seven in all having won the tournament in 2017, 2019, and 2021 and 2023.
