Why I Dumped Football For Future Career In Acting – Sunny Fasetire

A year two Ordinary National Diploma (OND) student of Dramatic Arts at PEFTI Film Institute in Lagos, God’swill Sunday Fasetire has revealed the reasons behind his decision to drop a prospective career in football in preference for acting in Nigeria’s movie industry.

Sports247 gathered that the youngster, who is fondly called ‘Sunny’ by his classmates and close friends, was reflecting on his bygone strides and projecting into his potential for the future ahead of his 19th birthday this Wednesday.

Now officially known as Sunny Fasetire and already being rated as a fast-rising actor with huge potential for a successful career in Nollywood, the ambitious lad, who also wants to be a model, admitted it could have been a different story altogether.

Sunny, whose father, Sam O’Femi Fasetire, is a veteran sportswriter and youth football promoter, disclosed, “Actually, when I was younger, I dreamt of becoming a footballer in the future. I even started playing for a team called Santos Football Academy at Ikotun, and I was a striker.”

“My dad supported me fully and always encouraged me to take football seriously. He bought boots, jerseys and other kits for me. He also paid all fees that were required at the academy.”

However, the gap-toothed youngster, whose mother is a Ghanaian from the Volta Region, admitted he could not meet up with the drills of training and he eventually decided to stop playing football after trying it actively for two years.

He recalled, “I continued training under Coach Santos at Ikotun Community Primary School for about two years, until we went for a summer camp at Ogun State in 2021.”

“It was a really difficult experience for me, especially when we had to wake up early in the day to start running round the field for our morning drills.”

“I actually like football as an opportunity to show your skills and score goals, not to be running around the field because you want to be fit. All those physical aspects of training discouraged me from continuing in football.”

The lanky lad then revealed that he also went for training in visual art, electrical wiring, electronics repairs and shoe making until he finally discovered his talent in acting career.

“I tried everything in terms of handiwork and vocational training. That was while I was a student at Greg Dyke School, near our residence at Governor’s Road in Ikotun.

“However, it was when I moved to Will-B Excellence Secondary School, near Ijegun Road, for my final year examination that I discovered my talent in acting, and I started working on it.”

“My dad again supported me and ensured that I enrolled at Chief Wale Adenuga’s film institute for me to gain formal training in dramatic arts and presentation,” Sunny added.

As he now approaches the adolescent age of 19 this Wednesday, Sunny Fasetire is already looking ahead into the future, as he intends to further his training at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife later this year and then venture into full time acting.

“I’m happy that I’ve already met top Nigerian actors like Jide Kosoko. I’m also in contact with Bon-Manuel Udokwu and Ali Baba. I believe one of them will catapult me into the heights of Nollywood before I even finish from school,” Sunny concluded.
