In a groundbreaking move that signals a new era for grassroots football in Anambra State, the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), in partnership with Akubudike Energy Limited, is set to launch the first-ever Anambra State Football League on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, at the prestigious Awka City Stadium.
This maiden edition of the league, a vision driven by the dynamic ANSFA Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi—fondly known as The General—marks a significant milestone in the state’s sporting history.

Designed to unite communities, promote peace, and uncover hidden football gems across the grassroots, the league will feature top-tier clubs drawn from all 21 Local Government Areas of the state, all affiliated with ANSFA.
“This is more than just football,” declared Chief Iloenyosi during the official unveiling of the league. “We are investing in the dreams of our youth, building unity among communities, and laying the foundation for Anambra to become a powerhouse of football in Nigeria. Through this initiative, we are giving our young talents the spotlight they truly deserve.”
The prize pool is as ambitious as the vision: a total of ₦3.9 million has been earmarked. The champions will take home a whopping ₦2 million, with the Runners-up, Third-place, and Fourth-place teams pocketing ₦1 million, ₦500,000, and ₦200,000, respectively.
The partnership with Akubudike Energy Limited, a key player in the state’s energy and development sector, has been hailed as a game-changer. Chief Iloenyosi lauded the company’s CEO for his unwavering support for youth and sports development, describing him as “a man whose passion for human capital development is transforming lives through football.”
