NPFL Legend Victor Ezeji To Receive Uniport @50 Excellence In Service Award

Former Nigerian international and iconic NPFL figure, Victor Ezeji, will be honoured with the Excellence in Service Award by his alma mater, the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), as part of the institution’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The university made this known in an official letter signed by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, commending Ezeji for his “outstanding contributions to the growth and success of the university over the years.”

“This award is a testament to the enduring partnership and impact you have made in advancing our mission of excellence in education, research, and community service,” the letter read.

Ezeji, a graduate of Accounting from UNIPORT, is currently making significant strides in sports development at the university’s Sports Institute. He will receive the award during a special ceremony at the Pro-Chancellor’s Dinner, scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 6 pm under strict invitation at the CBN Centre of Excellence, University of Port Harcourt

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that Ezeji’s presence at the event “will add to the significance of the celebration,” which aims to honour individuals and institutions that have played pivotal roles in the university’s five-decade journey.

A Storied Legacy

Victor Ezeji is widely regarded as one of the most decorated players in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

As a student-athlete, he represented UNIPORT at the Nigerian University Games (NUGA), helping the university secure victory and qualify for the West African University Games in 1998, where they clinched the gold medal in football.

That same year, he led Nigeria’s football team at the World University Games in Mallorca, Spain. Known for his brilliance on the pitch and gentlemanly conduct off it, Ezeji has since served as an ambassador for numerous institutions and initiatives in sports development.

Throughout his professional career, Ezeji played for top Nigerian clubs including Sharks FC, Dolphins FC, Enyimba International FC, Heartland FC, and Sunshine Stars. He also had a stint abroad with Club Africain of Tunisia.

He boasts an illustrious trophy cabinet: multiple domestic league titles, the Tunisian Ligue 1 title, and two CAF Champions League trophies with Enyimba.

He was NPFL’s top scorer in 2002, MVP of the FA Cup and NPFL in 2004, and was capped eight times for the Super Eagles, scoring four goals.
