WAFCON 2024: Oparanozie Admits Worries Over Zambia’s ‘High Scoring’ Form Against Super Falcons

Nigerian female ex-international striker, Desire Oparanozie has admitted that she has some worries over the Super Falcons’ chances against ‘high scoring’ Zambia in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) quarter-finals.

Sports247 reports that both sides are set to tango on Friday in a replay of their WAFCON 2022 third place match, which the Zambians won in the same North African country where this year’s competition is also taking place, thereby given them an edge on current form.

Heading into this Friday’s game in Casablanca, Morocco, Oparanozie acknowledged that The Copper Queens are very hot and predicted that they will give the Nigerians a run for their money in what is expected to be an explosive encounter.

Oparanozie, who is working as a television analyst at WAFCON 2024, pointed out: “It’s unfortunate that these two powerhouse teams have to meet at this stage in the tournament … where one will have to go home.

“But then, it means we should be looking forward to an exciting and very entertaining game.”

The former Guingamp of France top striker, who captained the Falcons for a while before she was controversially removed, went on to confess that she feels a bit unsettled by the Zambian team’s current form.

Oparanozie continued, “I’m a little bit worried in terms of our low goal scoring conversion rate. I’m really a bit worried because we are playing against a high scoring side, and we might run into a problem.”

She concluded by acceding that the Falcons’ coach, Justin Madugu, should be able to come out with a winning formula and know how to put the Zambians in check during Friday’s potentially explosive fixture.

“I don’t know what they are doing about it, but let’s hope that problem is faced and solved.

“We should then be able to take all our chances. Once we convert them, it won’t come back to haunt us at the end of the day,” Oparanozie theorised
