Nigeria’s Para Athletes Roar Into Action As NSC-Backed National Camp Opens In Lagos Ahead Of Global Showdowns

In a bold step toward sporting excellence, the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN) has officially opened camp in Lagos for the nation’s para athletes ahead of a packed international calendar, thanks to the full backing of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

Speaking on the development, PCN President Sunday Odebode expressed gratitude to the NSC for its support, highlighting the significance of this timely preparation.

“We are very pleased that the camping has opened for our Para athletes, but this would not have been possible without the National Sports Commission and the intentional leadership of both the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade,” Odebode said.

He further credited President Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for entrusting Nigerian sports into the hands of capable technocrats, noting that the para sports community has never experienced such prompt and strategic backing.

The Lagos camp serves as the launching pad for Nigeria’s quest for glory at several major international events, including:

The World Para Championship in Santiago, Chile

The Para Athletics Grand Prix in India

Regional qualifiers for the Para Table Tennis World Championship

Wheelchair Basketball and Para Swimming qualifiers

“This kind of early preparation has a direct impact on results. Our athletes are more motivated and determined than ever to make Nigeria proud,” Odebode noted. “The ultimate target is an outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and a historic showing at the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.”

The camp has already sparked renewed energy and optimism within the para sports community, with athletes training under heightened motivation and improved conditions—signaling a new era of high-performance sports for Nigeria’s special athletes.

As Nigeria’s para stars gear up to carry the nation’s flag on the world stage, the message is clear: with vision, support, and grit—glory is within reach
