WAFCON 2024: Randy Waldrum Warns Super Falcons To Beware Of Morocco, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Zambia, Ghana

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ former coach, Randy Waldrum has served a note of warning to the squad’s current techical crew to watch out for tough opposition at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Sports247 reports that the American tactician pointed at Cameroon, Ghana, Zambia, Ivory Coast and hosts Morocco as the countries that are most likely to give the Falcons a run for their money at WAFCON 2024.

Although Waldrum did not give a mention about the cup holders, South Africa, he warned the Falcons’ current coach, Justin Madugu, to watch out for whst he described as ‘well-organised teams’ from Morocco and Ivory Coast.

Incidentally, the Falcons had to pant, dig deep and rely on a very late goal towards the end of Thursday’s second group match versus Botswana to defeat the minnows 1-0, but Waldrum tipped the Nigerian players to overcome all hurdles on their way to a tenth title.

He eulogised, “I think the players are good enough on their own. There’s enough talent there, based on what was built up from the World Cup and Olympics.

“Those players will find a way to get the results, because they are hungry to regain the title. I think they can do that in spite of the level of coaching that they are now getting.”

Waldrum, who resigned from the Falcons’ saddle under very controversial circumstances, stressed that talent alone can see the team through to the much envisaged tenth title, in a campaign tagged Mission X, even if the technical aspect is not good enough.

“Although I still think the current coaching of the team is not at a level it needs to be, I believe the players’ talent is good enough.

“But they have to watch some good teams in the competition. Morocco is well-organised, and Ivory Coast also has a good coach. There are other tough teams from Zambia, Cameroon, and Ghana.

“They can make the competition difficult for Nigeria, but I’m holding out that the players can get the job done and win the title,” Waldrum submitted.
